Pacific Grove Golf Links ($)

Pacific Grove Golf Links offers spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, Lovers Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and Asilomar's natural sand dunes. Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nine holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style. The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, original designer of the Pebble Beach Golf Links. The holes are unpretentious, reminiscent of an era when the "par fours" were sometimes less then 300 yeards and the "par threes" could be contemplated by the common folk. There are not many bunkers and the greens are small.

Already drawing rave reviews for its renovated front nine, Bayonet Golf Course has ushered in a new and exciting era for the landmark golf course that overlooks the famed Monterey Peninsula. Certain to provide both challenges and inspiration to golfers for generations to come, Bayonet is being resculpted by award-winning golf course architect Gene Bates, whose recreation of the back nine is scheduled to be unveiled in February of 2009. Open daily in the meantime, the new front nine is pairing with the new back nine at Black Horse to offer golfers a unique opportunity to sample both new designs. Together they combine for an 18-hole "hybrid" course that plays to a par 72 and a maximum of 7,168 yards.

Opened in 1897, Del Monte Golf Course is the oldest course in continuous operation west of the Mississippi. Designed by golf and polo enthusiast Charles Maud, this inland course boasts a meandering layout that has challenged golfers for more than one century. It was the original host of the California State Amateur, still played on Del Monte's narrow, tree-lined fairways and small, well-protected greens and continues to serve as one of the three courses on which the Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational is played.

Located in Santa Cruz, Pasatiempo was designed by the world-renowned golf architect Alister MacKenzie. Even though MacKenzie also designed Augusta National and Cypress Point, Pasatiempo was his favorite layout and where he made his American home, which still borders the sixth fairway. Today, this historic Top 100 course is a semi-private golf club that sets aside certain tee times each day for public play. From greens that have challenged generations of golfers including Bobby Jones, Ken Venturi, Juli Inkster and Tiger Woods, to rich golf history and breathtaking scenery, Pasatiempo delivers a memorable golf experience. It is truly one of the finest championship golf courses in the United States.

Spyglass Hill was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and opened in March 1966. The design features two distinctly different kinds of terrain that influence the way the holes look and play. The first five holes roll through sandy seaside dunes challenging the golfer to carefully pick the safest path. The following 13 holes are cut through majestic pines with elevated greens and strategically placed bunkers and lakes to grab the errant shot.
