The course was named for Karsten Solheim, the inventor of Ping golf clubs and an individual devoted to improving the game of golf for all to enjoy. Designed by Pete Dye, his unique touch is etched in all 18 holes and on every bent grass green. Rolling fairways sculpted by lush mounding only hint at the challenge that lies inherent in the layout. Arizona Golf Journal voted #9, #16, and #l8 as three of the most difficult holes in Arizona; Western Links Magazine recognized the 18th hole as one of the best finishing holes in the West (including California and Hawaii).
